I remember that once upon a time, dell was a great company. They built quality consoles, they had the warranty that set the industry standard, they cared about their customer support. It is clear to me that these things no longer matter to Dell. A big name and customer loyalty brings us back time after time. Over the past decade, I have given them dozens of referrals and direct purchases, but in the year since I purchased my dell M17x 8GB with dual Nvidia 260M graphics in SLI and an Intel i7 processor, I have actively scuttled just as many purchases by telling all about my personal experience.
Its unstable. Out of the box, brand spanking new, it barely even qualifies as a paper weight. It took me 3 days, and probably 30 hours to get through simply downloading and installing window's updates, firmware mismatches all kinds of errors and stuff that i'll get into later caused me... Read more

From right out of the box it started giving me random blue screen of death (BSOD) errors. It only occurred when I ran video games. Sometimes it would occur as soon as I started a game, other times a few minutes after I started, sometimes hours and occasionally not at all. It is not like I was running games that would stress the system; we are talking World of Warcraft here. After many hours spend on the phone with tech support and even a visit from a tech to replace the motherboard and video card, Alienware sent me a whole new machine.
Unfortunately that had the identical problem. It is clear to me that there is a design flaw in this computer. When it ran it was great but the random BSOD makes it more or less unusable to play games. So after getting a second non functional machine, they wanted to send me a third.
